It is a beautiful day in spring. The sun is slowly setting on the horizon. The perfect mood for the outdoor feast planned for later in the day.
Nonna Olga and her grandson, Daniele, have used regional ingredients to prepare a wide variety of tasty snacks and dishes that smell delicious. Rita has laid the table in the garden, everything is ready. One after another the guests arrive, family, friends and Viola Wüsthof. Viola has been visiting the Castello Serragiumenta over the past few days and today Rita and Viola want to toast the fact that the new WÜSTHOF Amici knife series has found a symbolic home in the Castello area.
‘This wonderful estate set amidst olive trees, with your great variety of delicious products from your own sustainably-farmed land, the friendly Calabrian hospitality in your restaurant and guest rooms. Plus the wonderful family around Nonna Olga and you, Rita. Nature and culinary delight, a zest for life, family and friends, I really can't imagine a better home for our Amici knife series,’Viola Wüsthof, adding in conclusion: ‘Born in Solingen, Germany and at home in Castello Serragiumenta, Italy.’
A joyful celebration follows. The table is magnificently set, the fresh bread from the stone oven and the aromatic grilled salsiccia (a traditional fresh pork sausage) are effortlessly sliced at the table using Amici knives; food and drinks are passed back and forth with enthusiasm. There is a lot of talking and laughing, the children are running around. In this exuberant and lively atmosphere everyone is happy to share this precious moment with family and friends. Benvenuti Amici.
Castello Serragiumenta is located on a hill in the Calabrian countryside, between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Here, Rita Bilotti runs a sustainable farm in the third generation as well as a small country hotel with a restaurant, a location for weddings and other events as well as riding stables with around 60 horses - an oasis of peace and a place to savour special moments of pleasure.
On the farm, the family produces sun-ripened olive oil, high-quality wines, many types of vegetables, as well as goat’s cheese and local sausage specialties from rare black pigs that roam freely in nature. Rita and her team follow a zero-kilometre philosophy, aiming to avoid transport and use as much of their own produce as possible. In addition, all products are produced according to ecological principles and are well received by/offered to their own guests.
Nonna Olga is Rita's mother. She has lived at the Castello for over 60 years and has always been responsible for taking loving, culinary care of the family.
