The WÜSTHOF knife in detail

At first glance a knife consists of two parts: The blade and the handle.
When you look in detail, however, there are other areas as well:

1. The blade / blade surface

The blade / blade surface - is the most important part of a knife and is made from a single piece of steel. The original material (chromium-molybdenum-vanadium steel) is tempered during the production process.
The international Rockwell measuring unit is used to measure the hardness. WÜSTHOF knives are hardened to 58° Rockwell. This guarantees that the knives are sharp, long-lasting and easy to sharpen.

2. The blade spine

The blade spine - on a high-quality knife, the spine is carefully ground and beautifully smooth (no bumps, corners or edges). This is known by the technical term "deburring".

3. The bolster

The bolster - this thicker integral section between the blade and the handle shows that the knife is forged.
The weight of the bolster ensures an optimum and safe fit in the hand (balance).

4. The stainless steel rivets

The stainless steel rivets - permanently secure the handles to the tang.

5. The cutting edge

The cutting edge - as the name suggests, this enables a clean and precise cut.
The outstanding sharpness and edge retention of a WÜSTHOF knife is thanks to the special PEtec sharpening process.

6. The etching

The etching - is proof of the knife's origin. It establishes the product number and name of the range and also includes the logo, company name and place of origin.

7. The finger guard

The finger guard - a continuation of the bolster downwards. Protects the fingers from sliding down the blade.

8. The tang

The tang - the extension of the blade into the handle of the knife. The handles of the knife are attached to the tang.
These can be made from various materials: High-quality plastic, premium wood or stainless steel.

9. The heel of the handle

The heel of the handle - shaped so that the knife can always be handled safely.
